Fun times to transfer sites over

I am sure I am not the only one that has dealt with a client who ended up transferring a site over from another hosting company but had to wait almost days on end.

Right now I have a client who has waited almost a week to have the site released since he had it managed through some "3rd party" that took care of "all of his hosting needs".

It is Friday but still I want to bang my head on the wall and ask what is taking so long, its hard to justify another "company" when you have no idea anything about them.

She is talking about a client moving a site to her servers from what I can tell, in which case she would have no control over the site or name servers.

Have the client update the DNS to point to your new host's nameservers. Have the new host's nameservers set with a 400 TTL and point back to the OLD location.

Wait a day or two.

Then run your transfer, and update the A Records to point to the new place.

There are those places that hold domains hostage, but if you have them change the DNS information first - they can drag their feet with the transfering of the domain name all they want as the site will be pointing where you want it.

Client tried to contact them to speed it up, I tried as well, then we both tried with a party line to the old host. I would prefer to not say, but I really just tap my foot a little harder when I am having my time held up for some fools. I can tell you its a place that is well known for being jerkies though.

I hear ya - fingers crossed that it gets worked out quickly. I hate being the one who is dragged around. The worst part is that the client then assuments that it's YOUR fault even though you're the one waiting :(

I feel your pain - fingers crossed for a little more speed!

It is unfortunate when a provider gets blamed for things that are really an issue with their previous provider. Hopefully your client understands what is going on as well as you.
