I have been looking for several people who would be interested in having their site hosted free of charge. I have a menagerie of blinking/beeping boxen with resources to spare. Anyway, I can only amuse myself running Plan 9 on so many computers for so long before I get bored, and thus I have decided to milk my bandwidth for all it's worth, and offer up some free web hosting.
Which brings me to my point. I figure that there may be a few of you out there that would would be interested in free hosting. I can give the specific technical details to anyone who would like to know, as I don't want to take up a bunch of space here with that info. However, I would like to make clear that I am not looking to provide hosting of data files, music or video media. I would appreciate it if the sites you plan to host are non-commercial..
I also want to clarify, this is Free hosting.. no pop-up ads, no nothing, just hosting.
Just to quickly run through..
15 MB of Disk Space. (The amount of disk space is not set in stone.. if you need more, just tell me how much and why and it's yours.)
1 MySQL account
PHP
NO shell/ssh access
1 POP Email
Free Sub-domain (Let me know if you already have a domain)
Technically the bandwidth is unmetered insofar as I don't keep tabs on the amount used... The connection is on a 512k frac T-1 - that may change pretty soon. However, throttling down to 256k is enabled for all users. If I needed to put a number on the amount of bandwidth you can use - I would say... 3-5 GB. I also ask that you please keep all individual file sizes down to 500-750 KB. In other words no Big Ass .75-1 MB+ PSD graphic files/galleries.
It is perfect for anyone interested in running their own Message Board/Forum, a personal or a group site.
As far as support goes, you have access to me via e-mail and AIM, and I will treat any problem or concern you may have very professionally. The servers have excellent uptime, and are going on 3 months without a reboot. I'm currently hosting around 6 other sites, and would like to increase that amount in order to better practice running and managing multiple hosting accounts. I would also encourage those hosted to write a review in a forum such as this one. Let me know how I do!
I would also ask that those sites I host place a small piece of text, or banner somewhere on the site acknowledging the free hosting.
