Some hosting companies offer free a free domain name for lifetime as a bonus if you purchase their hosting package. Is it worth it? Did you or will you take advantage of the offer?

Just chek the price associated with the hosting package. compare the Hosting price with some other Hosting companies if you feel no much difference go for it.

Just make sure it's registered in your name, so you have complete control of the domain. I won't do this. I'd rather separate the domain from the web host provider. :)

i wouldn't agree to take advantage on promotion like this.
usually domains that comes free like this, u will not have the rights to control the domain urself

to avoid future headaches ask the company what happens to the domain name if you cancel the hosting account and move to a different provider.

usually they will say charge u a certain amount of transfer fees, and bla bla bla.
and ends up the price is higher than u buy a domain from other registrar urself...

Very well said CS Squad !!!

They can charge you a handsome amount for cancellation hosting and transfering it to other company.. Domains which are offered Free are generally not registered on your name and you don't have any control on them. If you anyhow get it the case spoken above may happen with you :(

yeah, lol
usually people who thought they get something for free, will end up spend more money.

a lot of my friends last time who purchase their hosting account and get the free domain name, they though it is really belong to them. i told them it is not really belongs to them since the domain whois is all stated that it is belongs to the hosting company and only the hosting company have access to configure the domain dns.

they don't believe me, and when they wanted to transfer their website away, here comes the problem. the hosting company refuse to let them get back their domain even when they willing to pay for transfer fess.

and when they have no choice, they have to continue back with the hosting company, the hosting company charge them an amount of account reinstate fees since they already requested to terminate the account 2 weeks b4 they decided to continue back with that hosting company.

:)

its a good idea, and a good way to get new clients, but, from a clients point of view, if you sign up, and it doesnt work out, are you allowed to take the domain with you if its free?

usually, no
this is he reason why we all do not agree to take free domain like this.

Yes it is always a risk registering your domain with your hosting provider. It is best to go with separate vendors for each.

Thanks guys for the enlightening answers. I bought my domain names on Godaddy and host my websites on another web host. The web host offers a free domain name for every user actually, but I didn't take it and just chose another bonus.

Bonus, free, and unlimited are the words often used for advertising. It doesn't always do good for the client because all the company wants is your money.

Like the others have said, you will spend much more if you bite their advertising scheme. I'm glad that you didn't get their offer.

Most of the hosting companies nowadays include free domain name to their plans. i think it is already the quality of web hosting a company provides that matters. Second is the price.
:D:D:D

Yes, that's true. I am aware there is no such unlimited packages. Though, actually I purchased a web hosting package with unlimited bandwidth and storage space to host my website and blogs. :D I read on Hostgator (it's not the web host I use) terms that though you get unlimited bandwidth, you cannot use more than 25% of their resources for more than 90 seconds.

I am agree with that. I think free and discounted offers makes customer fool....

Nothing can be free service in this world . if your hosting company offers you free domain name with hosting package , they are smart enough to include domain name cost within your hosting plan charges. In addition to that most of these offer has a limitation that you cant change hosting service provider. So even if your hosting service provider fails to satisfy you with his service ,you do not have any option to change them other wise you may lose the domain name. Please read the guide line clearly before making any decisions.
