France Starts Reporting ‘Millions’ of File-Sharers

The ISPs have to hand over the identities of the associated accounts to the authorities within a week, or face a fine of 1500 euros per unidentified IP-address.

The ISP's are certainly not going to keep their customers information confidential at 1500 euros per IP.

I'd hate to be an illegal file sharer in France right about now. :(

I'm kind of curious about this whole story.
The only information I can find on it are sites that quote the torrentfreak story.
Nothing out there to back up the validity of the torrentfreak story.

Why did this suddenly become an issue well over a year since this law was passed?

I thought you couldn't find anything out there about the story. Does theregister.co.uk not count? :P Anyways, I don't know either, I just found the article yesterday myself and had to share it.

Actually the law is a year and a half old but the torrentfreak story is recent.
Must have been a slow day for someone because from what I can tell nothing has ever really come of this French law in the past 17 months.
