For .COM.AU orders, do you validate the domain-business relationship before submission?

A valid ABN or ACN doesn't always mean the requested .com.au name is eligible. The name itself still has to satisfy the .au allocation criteria.

auDA has also approved in principle removing goods, services, events, activities or premises as allocation bases. The change isn't active yet, but it could make pre-validation more important.

For providers offering .com.au, do you check this before submitting the order or handle failures afterward?

I’d rather validate it before submission whenever possible. A valid ABN or ACN is only part of the equation if the requested domain still has to meet the .au eligibility and allocation rules.

Catching a mismatch before sending the registration request prevents a failed order, a refund, or back-and-forth with support. It also gives the provider a chance to explain why the name may not qualify and what alternatives might work.

If the proposed allocation changes take effect, I’d expect pre-validation to become even more useful. The challenge will be automating enough of the check that it doesn’t turn every .com.au registration into a manual review.

Agreed. The tricky part is keeping it simple for customers. Nobody wants to go through a long check before registering a domain, even if the check is useful behind the scenes.
