With your web hosting business, what back up methods do you use? Is there a hardware device that is fireproof? Or a way of ensuring a fireproof back up, other than by backing up to another host unrelated to the one in question.
I'm not suer about fireproof, so much as fire resistant. I know there is specialty paint used in many palces where fire resistance would be useful. I would imagine if you had highly sensitive or important servers you would have fire supressive equipment in the server room and remote backup. I can't say I've seen fireproof casings for servers (although goodness knows when I ask or go looking through the IT security catalogs laying about the house I'll probably be proved wrong).
It depends on your host.
Most good hosts will do back ups off the server so they are pretty safe. Nothing is ever 100% but if the back ups are not just being done on a secondary drive on the same server you should be OK.
Actually I was thinking more of personal back ups, since I do not trust the host to take care of everything for me in that respect. With a business that would have needed information on a host I think it only prudent to have home back ups as well. But I would want to make sure they were safe.
most hosts say that even if they do offer backups it does not mean you should not. They say if something goes wrong with their backups it is your problem and not theres so its always good to have your own.
