Finding Available Domain Names

Are there certain sites on where you can find domain names that have expired recently, or a site that shows what domain names are available? I'm typically interested in short domain names (3-5 characters in length) and would love to find a place that shows what names are left to register. Please let me know if you know of a site like this.
