File hosting account

Hi everybody,

First of all I should say sorry for my English, it's not good but I hope you can understand it.

I have a downloads site where most of the content are .zip and .rar files. I use about 300GB/month of bandwith, and it's growing a lot so I decided to move the files to a file-based hosting.

So, I'm looking for a service like Rapidshare, Megaupload... in their premium accounts. I need:

· About 300GB of monthly bandwith or more.
· About 5GB of hard disk space.

The main purpose is to share files, so I don't need any database, php support or any other thing... just file sharing.

I want to spend about 100€/120$ on it every year.

I was thinking on an "unlimited" hosting as HostGator, but the ToS of must of them says it's not allowed to use it as a file sharing account.

Best regards,

Pau.

Pau, any legitimate business will not allow you to use their services for file sharing activities, unless you own the copyrights to them.

Then I do not see a problem with a company like HostGator not allowing you to distribute your own content. I would send an email to sales with a request and perhaps proof that content belongs to you.

That clause is primarily to protect themselves from distribution of illegal content (warez, etc).

A number of hosts that offer very generous space and data transfer allocations will have clauses in their TOS that forbid file hosting/distribution. Basically, they want you to host a typical site. So, read the TOS carefully.

I don't see why if you own copy right, and you just want to host your files only to let others download them that you can't host them. Contact some host, For hostgator contact there support or sales and ask.

Most any hosting provider would not permit just any file hosting, also most of the overselling hosts (unlimited) have restrictions against this because if you actually use a bunch of bandwidth, they aren't making money.

That clause is primarily to protect themselves from distribution of illegal content (warez, etc).

Actually, the clause it to prevent people from using resources promised by hosts who lie to them about unlimited bandwidth.

I guarantee you that more accounts get shut down because of resource usage than illegal content.

Agree with Blue. I think the two biggest reasons accounts get terminated (other than billing) are for excessive resource use and spamming.

I am also agree with Blue and Steve-Hostirian !
Excessive resource use , spamming these are the termination reasons other than billing.

Do you know how to manage a server? If you can setup a VPS yourself (with Webmin or w/o a CP) you can find a self-managed server for around your budget.
