Why is it that whatever AOL touches turns to, pardon my French, crap?
First, there was good software Winamp, which they purchased and filled with AOL adware add-ons. I stopped using it.
Then, there was an absolutely sweet Spinner.com application, which I loved to use. Spinner was broadcasting great music in hundreds of channels in format of Internet radio. Then AOL purchased it, filled it with their own add-ons, completely messed up infrastructure and introduced subscriptions.
Finally, there is Mailblocks, which was the only solution I relied on to date which protected my email accounts from Spam. AOL decided to purchase it a few months ago, and what do you think... After over 120,000 spam that Mailblocks stopped for me (it is a PAID service!), the announcement arrived that in 30-days they will be closing its operation and all clients advices to move to some new AOL web mail account. Who need it! If I wanted an AOL account, I would have registered for one. Who is that smart guy who decided to discontinue profitable Mailblocks operation and refer everyone to a free 2gb AOL address?
Now, stranded, I moved to SpamArrest, my only other option.
AOL has very poor ways of management, extremely poor. And I am disgusted with how the company picks up on projects and ventures that have good potential and drive them into the ground. I guess this is what AOL does for a living. After all, it is the shareholder who pays or it.
Best,
