Egold still alive?

Hi guys!
Now it is time when more and more companies (web hosting providers) refuse using egold as payment system.
Why?
Has something changed?

Yes, I don't think egold's been that popular in the first place. Mostly the small providers are using it as far as I've noticed.

I think that this companies still alive. And about Egold. I have heard that web hosting companies do not use that because most of customers do not trust this payment system.

It is correct that most people do not trust it. I am one of them-I would not sign up for an account with them even if there were no alternative. There have been a wide variety of problems with them and it seems that really they don't have very good business ethics. I'll steer clear.

There was an FBI raid on E-gold in December 2005. Although the FBI dismissed the because of lack of evidence, they have raided E-gold because of terrorists or underground companies passing money through E-gold.

This reason is enough for me to avoid E-gold now even though I have an account once in that payment company.

I haven't heard of many companies using e-gold besides the smaller ones, or companies who want to host high risk customers or high risk content.

Questionable ethics and FBI raids aside, e-gold is just too hard to fund to begin with to achieve widespread use. They have been associated with too many "sketchy" schemes to have a good reputation...anyone hear of all the paid surfing investment/Ponzi schemes a couple years ago? Almost exclusively e-gold funded. Definitely a shady past.

E-gold is rarely used by hosting companies. The reason, probably because it is not popular and secure. Personally I would recommend Moneybookers over E-Gold, of course the top one would be 2CO and Paypal.

I've accepted e-gold for a couple of years, as well as PayPal, I did accept MoneyCrookers but they are just too obnoxious to deal with so dropped it. I've liked AlertPay, but the intergration with AWBS is poor so chose not to accept it. The only hard part with e-gold is converting it back to national currency. I only take in a couple hundred a month with it, so not too terrible.

I don't think it's not secure.
Most providers don't accept egold because it's difficult to convert the egold they receive to money they can spend.

We still accept it for numerous things. Its one of the last anonymous ways to pay. Our clients like their privacy and any form of digital gold currency is the most anonymous way to go. E-gold used to be the top provider, but after the U.S. government raided and then issued subpoena after subpoena, they dropped like a rock. As of this year, they are starting to slowly fade away as many long time users are finding alternatives such as Liberty Reserve, Pecunix, Crowne Gold, and other big names.
