I'm going to use shared web hosting from WebHostGiant.com. This company provides both Linux and Windows shared web hosting. Which one is better to use?
I know Linux is usually cheaper than Windows. The difference in prices is not big, just $1.
My web site is a small forum that is growing slowly.
Thanks.

People have been saying for ages that Linux hosting is more stable. I have personally never experienced hosting based on a Windows platform, so I cannot really compare.

However, what I do know is that unless your software/application requires you to have Windows installed, there is no reason why you should go for a more expensive choice.

Forums in particular have done exceptionally well on a Linux platform, so this is what I would recommend you to go with. Plus, you are saving that $1/mo, which is always nice. :)

From what I've noticed, it takes experience to master Windows. Not that with Linux it's not required, but often times Linux providers expand to the Windows world without being prepared enough, and boy do they get into trouble. So, make sure that the host has experience with the OS you choose.

Well said Art. :agree:

Usually on some companies they offer the same price for Linux and Windows. In general there is not much difference more than what you use to manage your hosting which most of the time in windows is Plesk (which I personally do not like). I would recommend going with Linux, as Artashes said and ldcdc quoted, there is no need to go to Windows unless you need specific applications for it.

If to choose between Linux and Windows offers from WebHostGiant.com, I'd choose Linux 'cause it's cheaper and don't need much experience comparing to Windows OS. Linux has more free features too.

I do agree that in 95% cases linux can support the same as windows. But if your project need windows you need go for windows ;)
