Don't be a drone!

I just wanted to kick out a friendly reminder to all the geeks and nerds alike to avoid being a drone and remember to get out of the office/dc/little box they keep you in sometimes. :)

I am going to try and plan my own get away for this summer, no idea where yet, but you can bet your drives I will not be working. :crash:

I actually work when I'm off, so I must be a drone with a capital D. :shh: I'm saving all my vacations for my move back to Hawaii. :)

I guess i'm a drone too lol But, I am going to florida in june so I guess that counts for something :P

Also, Hawaii huh steve? Must be nice there huh?

Yes, Hawaii is the best. Lived there for five years, stationed at Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station. Learned to fly there.

Lived one year in Pensacola and about a year and one half in Hollywood/Dania/Fort Lauderdale. Where are you heading in Florida?

I'm heading to Lakeland in Florida. Small area I guess :P Anyways, just going to go see family n what not. BBQs, go swimming, tease my cousins, you know the usuall stuff lol :D

I got my private pilot's license in the Cayman Islands. Best investment ever.

I'll be in Hawaii in December. Going to Waikiki beach for a few weeks. Any recommendations?

A few weeks - I could talk about Hawaii forever. Got my commercial license, instrument rating and multi-engine there - flew tours to all the Islands. Rent a convertible - spend a couple of days just driving and stopping at places at random - no schedules. What are you interested in? Scuba, sailing, bike trails, nature, golf, restaurants, parks? The submarine tour is great. Do a helicopter tour - wow - you'll love the view. Take a sunset dinner cruise. Take surfing lessons at Waikiki. Eat breakfast at the Duke. I can go on forever.

I never got beyond single engine. Love to do multi engine.

I spent a lot of years diving in the Cayman Islands and Cuba so that would be on the menu.
Driving around in the convertible is also on the list.
How are the waves on Honolulu? Are they the big ones you see on TV or is that the big Island? I was never any good at skiing or skating etc. so I'm guessing surfing would not be my game either.

I did look at some potential helicopter tours.

My main thing is getting out to the good restaurants and drinking holes.

I have a few trips planned for this year but I always have my laptop with me so always end up doing some work in the morning/evening and even during the day on my pda.

I don't mind though, keeps me in the loop and somewhat busy. When I don't do anything for a day I feel strange.

I'd also recommend Key West to anyone. A great place to go.

Yeah, it will be a fine trip. Also, as ayksolutions said I will have my laptop so there is a good chance I'll end up doing some work or helping a few clients..Always ends up that lol

Going from single engine to multi-engine feels like the difference between a car and a truck. So you're used to flying over water - flying between Oahu and Kauai is a trip in a small plane because it's just you and the ocean below - then Kauai just seems to pop up out of nowhere. Flying down through Waimea Canyon on Kauai is beautiful - it's called the Baby Grand Canyon.

There are thousands of restaurants and drinking holes - no problem finding any there.

The waves at Honolulu are mild - you could easily body surf there. The big waves are at North Shore (Oahu) in January and February. They break further out so that area is best for surfers. Hanuama Bay is great for snorkeling - for the whole family.

Diving is a plus - the waters off Kailua Kona on the Big Island are great - but you'll find great diving locations off every Island.

Waimei Falls is a great visit on Oahu and the Polynesian Cultural Center - the show in their theatre is great.

Do at least one luau.

Enjoy! :)

When you go, plan to just relax for one or two days - no schedules - rent a convertible and cruise. It's a vacation you won't soon forget.
