domain name parking

What is everyones general opinion about domain name parking, and have you ever done this before?

I have never tried before, nor had any real interest to, but I have heard that there's supposed to be some good money in just parking a domain, without bothering to set up a real site to go along with. Picking a good domain name would mean a lot of people seeing the ads you place on it.

Don't know about the advertising angle on it, I guess it COULD work. We have many domain names parked on our website depending on what itis that we are advertising. It's easier to give someone a link to "xxxxx.com" rather than "zzzzz.com/aaaaa/bbbbb/ccccc.html"

Parked domains (with the use of mod_rewrite) are ideal in these situations too.

I haven't invested in domains for the purpose of parking them, but have parked a few that I no longer needed and made a small amount on sales.

I would think that you'd have to receive an awful lot of traffic and/or have an awful lot of ads on that site in order for it to be worth the hassle. Parked domain monetization usually has targeted links that change dyamically. PPC wouldn't offer much.

Well, my personal belief is that not a single parking system could compare to developing a site on your own.

At the same time, a lot of people have more domains than they could possibly develop, so parking them would be a good solution, especially if you get nice type in traffic.
