In my area (the center of Ohio, USA), there is a push for data centers to be the '4th utility' outside of power, water, and connectivity/communications lines.

There are cities and municipalities using tax dollars to build data centers in direct competition to private local businesses (including CeraNet). In full disclosure they did not directly spending 15+ million dollars for the whole thing. It is a quasi-government organization that is tax payer backed through issuing bonds + using gov resources to plan, manage the build out, and run the actual DC. They say they did it as an economic development tool to bring businesses into the area. Keep in mind that that we about 10 miles from them and there are at least 3 other data centers within 5 miles.

Anyone else see a problem with this???? Where does it end? Do they decide that selling hot dogs should be the next one and build a hot dog stand to compete with local businesses?
