Dan Brown - The da Vinci Code (*VERY IMPRESSED*)

Ok, so maybe you're like me and dont read alot (probably because you just dont have the time because you spend too much time on HostingDiscussion), but maybe you're like me and would like to be able to sit back a relax with a book in hand sometimes. AND NO! The FreeBSD manual doesn't count ok! Well then maybe this is for you:

After having had the book recommended by many of my friends , I went into a book shop (a very rare occurance by all means) and went and bought it...along with about 6 other PC-related manuals of course :)

Delving into the first couple of chapters, you can be utterly bored or quite intrigued by the way that Dan uses very simplistic language to engage the reader in a way that I have never noticed before. The line between fact and fiction is made very vague throughout the book and you can be quite surprised at how thought-provoking it really is...

After reading chapter 74 (which deals with religeous marriage and union) I remember being quite shocked to hear Sting's "Sacred Love" streaming through three of my PCs...very odd!

I recommend this book highly...nearly bordering with the credit that I give the PHP manual :P

hehe...anyways, hope some of you guys have read thru it as well and maybe you also have some thoughts about it.
I cant say I'll live by what it says in the book, but I find it very informative!

Regards,

I haven't personally read it yet, but most of my family has including all my friends that enjoys reading. The prequel to that book is Angels And Demons? I think. Anyway. I'm busy with David Eddings - Elenium.

Now that's a great book that makes the time pass just a bit quicker.

Yeah, Angels and Demons is the other book in the set. Apparently there is a third book coming out soon which will maker the trilogy and I have also heard rumours of a movie...but I dont really keep up to date with that stuff...so yeah!

it's not bad, but very much fiction rather than fact
Tony Robinsons programme on grail hunting ripped it to pieces, and the dodgy books it heavily plagarises from

But defintaely thought provoking for a while

The DaVinci Code is a decent read, but it doesn't really cover all the facets of the theories it espouses. If you are really interested, I'd check out Holy Blood, Holy Grail by Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh, and Henry Lincoln. Warning, it may fall in the category of "dodgy" books previously mentioned, but it is a good read, and guarunteed to make you really think about a few things.

Also, IronCladonkey, make sure you get the rest of the Eddings books as well. Belgariad and Mallorean are both great series, tho Eddings tends to be a bit formulaic sometimes.

>check out Holy Blood, Holy Grail

it's one of the heavily borrowed from references for the DVC.
MB, Leigh & co are on reciord/interview as stating that they made a lot of it up - saldy its the bits they made up that Brown uses as "fact" regarding the scion society etc.

>Belgariad and Mallorean are both great series, tho Eddings tends to be a bit

Just a lot ! You might like the Stephen Lawhead Silver Hand trilogy - imagine Eddings meets Dan Brown ...

Hmmm, I've seen a lot of writing and programming about Baigent and company, I don't remember them saying they made anything up. Must have missed that part. They are basically reformatting a theory that has been around for hundreds of years, tho.

Actually, Lawhead tends to put me to sleep, unfortunately. I have the same problem with Robert Jordan, whose books I refuse to read until he dies and can't put out anymore to throw off my reading cycle. What is he up to now, a dozen in the WOT series? lol

Currently reading Robin Hobb's Tawny Man series, probably go to Joel Rosenberg's Sleeping Dragon books for a re-read after that.

So far my best read's been Raymond E. Feist. Personally apart from Eddings there's no competition for Feist. I know alot of people will think different, but that's my personal opinion.

Most peoples fave books are based on personale opinion. From my experience.
