Cutting a reseller

How often does anyone here have to cut a reseller off when they are not paying? I am wondering if it makes it any different compared to a non-reseller. Is a non-paying client reseller or not liable to the same terminations?

yes they all must adhere to the same TOS, so if a reseller does not pay then he will be suspended and then terminated the same as a non reseller in accordance to our TOS, but i find that because when a reseller is suspended all their clients sites are also suspended they are very sharp in paying up to get unsuspended.

Same here our reseller clients have to follow the same Terms Of Service all other clients follow if not it will lead to suspension and possible termination. Also I feel that if all accounts of the reseller is suspended along with the reseller it will make the owner / client of reseller come and pay us their invoice fee that lead them to getting suspended.

Same as the above. Resellers, in our view, are just like any of our clients when it comes to paying invoices. This is true for reseller accounts, vps or dedicated servers.

We've been faced with some resellers that close up shop but their clients know they're hosting on our servers. Then the client wants the info moved to their own account, but that's a no-go as our TOS says the reseller is in control (not the end client). Pretty sucky situation. It's the main reason we advise users not to use resellers of resellers - really creates a problem when an IP is blacklisted too!

This is a sticky situation, even though anyone has the right to move their sites to another host. we have has clients of our resellers approach us to have their own hosting account with us (some cases not knowing they are already on our servers), but what do you do as this can upset your reseller as they could see this as poaching their clients and make them leave you.

That is the thing I am getting at, their clients. I know some resellers who have clients that know us personally and understand that their host is a reseller. We always attempt to reach out to any client who has an overdue bill and even a day late, its on my mental list to get a hold of the person. To a point this is why I kind of dislike resellers, I hate being the bad guy when it comes to cutting them, which cuts their clients too. I must be too nice for my own good. :shh:

its not nice being the bad guy when it comes to cutting off resellers, knowing you are also cutting off their clients, but these resellers sign up knowing your TOS and receive your invoice ( we send ours 14 days before due date) then remind 1 day before due date then overdue sent 1,2,3 days after due date, suspend after 4 days overdue, so they have enough time to pay or contact us if they have issues. if they dont pay how do we pay our bills ontime.

We have similar invoicing and payment notifications as Terry.

At the end of the day, while it sucks for the reseller's clients, your responsibility and blame must go to the reseller themselves. If one of their clients wants to sign up with us and they have their files etc, we're happy to sign them up, but if they don't have anything and they want us to copy from the reseller, we can't do that.

While cutting off a reseller is troublesome, just remember your datacenter would do the same to you. If you fail to pay your bill with them, they give you a grace period, then shut you (and your clients) off. A reseller is in no different of a situation.

exactly as unless you are colocating your are in effect a reseller of a kind.

get a dedicated server from a DC, the ded belongs to the DC, so you are reselling space on a DC server.
geta a VPS you are reselling space from a ded server.

but no matter what you have you have still to pay bills to keep running.

its the same if you have a mortgage and dont pay this, you will soon find yourself evicted

You should follow your TOS, We allow 14 days with 3 notices.

As a host you also have to understand issues out of anyones control do happen. We do follow our own TOS, but if a client contacts us that they will be late or even after the late fee is added with a plausible reason of being late etc. then we will remove late fees etc. but we make a note on their account, incase it happens again and they use the same reason.
