Customization

Do you like customizing your PC? I find it very enjoyable, and am an ObjectDesktop ( www.objectdesktop.net ) subscriber. I love changing the skins, the desktop, adding desktopX items and such, it's good to make it seem very personal :)

What about others?

I thought you meant the actual hardware and case from the title :D

I don't mod anything to do with the hardware and external looks of the computer, not into that at all.
I hide my computer under a desk and have a flat screen above the desk, so it doesn't make a difference to me.

I have changed the desktop background, I would like to do something like Freckled has on her desktop, its a great idea.
She might be able to post a screenshot of it again, not sure where the other thread is.

I have changed the xp skin before and liked it, although sometimes it didn't load on startup and my skin looked like something from 95 or 98, which I didn't like.

I'm back on a skin now which is just a normal one available in windows, silver.

Its very plain but quicker to load than some of the other skins I tried and don't have any problems with it

I hate case modificayions and stuff, turning your PC case into a phone box, a fish tank, a toaster? What's the point!?

The same could be said for people who customize their cars by fitting massive exhausts, raciung tyres, massive big speakers in the boot etc? Whats the point. ;)

But you have to admit, some of the stuff they do is really really neat and good looking too :P

Not saying I mod my pc at all, because I don't but I've seen some really cool ones.

There are some really nice looking ones, I admit. But you lose functionality at the same time. For example, upgrading becomes a lot less easy, or even impossible. And you have more limited space.

The best computer mod I'd seen involved turning an SGI tower into a coffee maker. :coffee:

It held special meaning for me, since I worked at SGI when they launched their O2 product line back in 1996. I know those *@^%)P!$% boxes...

Now they aren't that bad. I had one as a desktop and always worked. Also got an Indy in Ingido 2 here that need booting at some point

I would never customise my PC, I just see it as a tool to store loads of data and files and retrieve loads of data and files and to surf the internet.

In fact I'm going to build another couple of PCs to store my every increasing amount of data and network them all. :)

I don't even bother customising windows, I used to, but it was tended to be resource hungry so I just switched to the classic style.

You dont even customise the wallpaper?

Yes,

That is the only thing that is customised.

Over the years my focus in computing has shifted, I try to seek my enjoyment away from computers now. That is why I buy DVDs, go out at play golf amd play pool.

The main reason I used to customise windows is because that was my main hobby, which it isn't anymore. Maybe one day I will start customising my desktop again. :)
