they offer cheap VPS server

i ordered one on 15th March, basically just as a backup server, here is a summaray of problems in the 3 days

1) when i initially signed up for a UK server and i was set up a server with an already assigned IP, which you cancelled and refunded me.
2) you offered me a month free on any of your plans
3) i took you up on this and ordered the titanium plan.
4) you set this up on a USA server and not UK server
5) then you set this up on a UK server but wrong plan
6) you eventually set me up on the right plan on a UK server
7) i try and install cpanel trial licence, but server not configured to install cpanel.

their support seesm to pass all tickets to admin. but their last reply this morning was

"Hi Terry,
I apologise for the delay of my response, I have been extremely busy. The reason why my support team have been putting your support tickets on hold is because your package is unmanaged. This means that we are not responsible for installing software such as cpanel. However, I am willing to try and resolve this issue free of charge for you but I will not be able to a give an eta on this. I suggest that you get a system admin to fix this for you, if you don't want wait for me and/or don't have the ability to do it yourself.
Kind Regards,
Curvehost Management - www.curvehost.com "

so they want me to pay for a system admin to try and configure a server they have not set up correctly, which a system admin could not do anyway as they have not set the VPS up on their ded server correctly as it will not allow cpanel to install

What did you expect when you signed up for unmanaged services?.. Get a fully managed server or VPS and your problems are fixed. ;)

I don't see how CurveHost did anything wrong here, besides making a few mistakes setting up your order.. Unless they promised you managed services and gave you unmanaged, instead.

thats true, if you buy a unmanaged product, you cant get technical support for your product. So if you bought a unmanaged server you must have to knowhow how you use your product!

I agree with everyone else. You can't purchase an unmanaged VPS or dedicated server and expect the provider to correct things if you cannot do it yourself.

If there was a legitimate problem with the VPS container, I could understand the need for the provider to provide support, but with unmanaged service, installing cPanel is something they should not have to normally assist you with.

Seems like they offered to help even though the plan is unmanaged. If you're unwilling to wait as they suggested, get outside help (if you can't resolve this yourself).

I am not understanding why anyone should beware of this company. It sounds to me like they are trying to help you although you signed up for the wrong services. They are even willing to help you at no additional cost. It doesnt sound so bad.

they dod not provision the VPS correctly so it was incompatible with cpanel, this is something that they can only sort out. even today i find out that they have changed the main IP and still server not working.

i have been hosting 10 yrs and i know how to work around a server

a reply i got from them was

"Hi,

I have got around to installing cpanel on your vm. Again apologies for the delay but we don't usually process requests such as this with an unmanaged package. Is there any reason why you don't have /etc/selinux/config?

Regards,

Curvehost Management "

so this is their fault and nothing to do with me.

lat message from them was

"Hi Terry,

We have changed your ip, you can have the other one back if you want it doesn't really matter to us.
I am currently installing cpanel, it looks like the reason it was hanging before was because rdate needed updating:

"yum update rdate"

I will let you know when it is completed.

Regards,

Curvehost Support"

but considering i ordered a VPS that should have been fully ready just to install cpanel these were the errors i got

at first try

which to me shows that the VPS was not setup correctly in the first place, so hows that my fault.

It looks like you didn't set up your resolvers. Most of the time they are done durring installation but it's an easy fix and one anyone using an unmanaged service should know how to do.

wrong

i ordered a VPS. managed or unmanaged then this should be 100% set up just to install the control panel, if not then this means the server was not provisioned correctly, which is not my fault.

i found this on these sellers

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1024351

you would not buy a car from a showroom and when you try and start it , it will not start because the garage forgot to add the battery and then they and others says its your fault that the car had no battery.

great they managed to install cpanel and give me the details.

i tweeked the settings as i have on my other server and then decided to config apache using easyapache. this was 9 hours ago and still not complete.

never known it to take this long, the longest ive waited on any server for apache to rebuild is 1 hour.

Hi Terry Robertson,

I apologised for the problems when your vps was setup. To compensate you for this I offered you a month's free service.

I have explained to you time and time again that the vps was completely ready for cpanel installation, but as you have a unmanaged package this is your responsibility. As a gesture of goodwill I installed cpanel for you, the reason why the installer was hanging was that rdate needed updating:

Code:
yum update rdate

To be honest I would expect someone who ordered an unmanaged vps would be able to resolve this trivial issue. I think it may be more sensible for you to find a host that offers managed services.

Regards

Hi Terry,

Your account has been closed, we don't have time to support users such as yourself. I hope you can find a provider that will.

If you would like to recover any data from the vm, then please let me know.

Best Regards

i have been hosting for the last 10 years and have installed cpanel on many servers. i have 2 other unmanaged servers both with cpanel, when these servers were given to me i installed cpanel with the ssh instructions gven by cpanel and all was installed within 2 hours fully working, so yes i know how to run servers.

read this

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1024351

it shows i am not the only one that has had a raw deal with curvehost.

Terry,

You keep quoting that WHT thread. If you actually take the time to read it, you will see that the author "active8" was not even a customer of Curvehost. He was criticizing our pricing structure, which he later apologised for. It is simply astounding* how people are so quick to post negative comments without even using our services.

Anyway, I wish you all the best for the future.

*MOD NOTE: Changed outstanding to astounding based on correction PM'd by member.

I had very similar issue you had with godady's windows plesk dedicated server , they are not even ready to look at the issue, all they said repeatedly was to purchase their premium support. Hope someone from curvehost look at your issue and solve it.

I agree with everyone else. You can't purchase an unmanaged VPS or dedicated server and expect the provider to correct things if you cannot do it yourself.
