CSS mystery.

Funny story. I came across a very interesting web site the other day that listed web sites in the format of templates/layouts in different categories: 2 column, 3 column, theme separation, etc...

The domain name had a "CSS" in it. It looked like they were selling templates of some sort. But what is CSS exactly and is there an advantage to using it? The listed example sites were gorgeous!

best,

What site was it? I don't know why, but your description makes me think of http://www.csszengarden.com/

I'm not an expert at this, but it stands for Cascading Style Sheets. Actually HD itself makes use of CSS.

From http://www.w3.org/Style/CSS/ :

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a simple mechanism for adding style (e.g. fonts, colors, spacing) to Web documents.
As for "simple", that's a relative thing. It should be easy to learn if you know HTML.

One advantage would be ease of design change, as you can see over at the site mentioned above, but there's a whole debate on whether using CSS (divs) is better than using tables. It's pretty much like the Windows vs Linux debate. :)

A web designer should be able to tell us more about the advantages of CSS.

CSS is becoming more frequent in websites.

Even now you can create Scrollbars for Tables instead of using Iframes, and even more features.

I absoultly Love CSS you can do alot and like Blue said "
a single file rather than changing every page.
"

Even vBulletin uses CSS :)

Thank Goodness for CSS. They were just coming about when I started doing Web Design. They are such a time savor and featured back. Images are no longer difficult to align. :)

Art, maybe you ought to learn CSS and built a site fo us to see what you have learned. Just a thought. :)

I'm also miffed at how you could possibly not know what CSS is considering you would have had to edit it for this forum?

It's a very useful in webdesign, it seperates content from design and can save alot of time :)

If you own a site, you don't necessarily have to be the one who takes care of its web design. :)
