cPanel Transfer From Heck

Well I had an experience yesterday. Picked up a client that wanted to transfer to us from a host that was experiencing some real problems with support. I put in to transfer the account over and so they did. I noticed immediately that something was wrong with the details and things were just no matching up. I started fiddling with the account, then boom, server goes down. Apparently the transfer really had some issues. cPanel transfers have gone awry for me before, but never this way.

Get the server back online and we finish the account transfer again. Same problem. At this point we're all scratching heads. We were going to get a third opinion this morning but at this point I don't want my client waiting any longer. I know he needs to get off of that server and I'm not really willing to put nearly 24 hours into getting a transfer finished.

I then tried downloading the cPanel backups from his account and do things the semi-manual way. I downloaded them fine, checked out as okay on my computer and then I uploaded them without issue. I check the permissions and I can't even get into the public_html folder. MySQL backups simply don't work either.

At this point I'm mad and delete the new account in a flurry of rage. I decided I really was going to have to do things the manual way. I started downloading the files from FTP and lo-and-behold the server connection times out every minute or so and this guy has 3 forums on his account. That took a bit of time needless to say.

I finally get things downloaded and moved over. The phpMyAdmin backups worked just fine and FTP took care of the file issues. He's good to go, finally.

That was pretty much my day yesterday. That is the worst experience I've ever had with cPanel ever. Anyone ever had a backup experience go that bad as far as the cPanel account transfer feature?

I can relate to your experience.

This has happened to me before especially on large and dynamic websites with huge MySQL databases. I literally have to hire a programmer at Scriptlance.com to fix the problem of the transfer from one problematic server to a new one.

I got 3 sites at that time that took us 3 days to transfer. And almost got caught up with the server downtime. But the programmer I hired was so good he even fixed and optimized the screwed MySQL databases. He used multiple website backup files to fix the script and databases. He got root pass as it is my dedicated server at that time. I am not sure if he can do it without the root access.

Its so annoying and frustrating when things started acting up on CPanel transfers. I can only say it happens and may happen to anyone as well in the future.
