For one of the companies I had to get a new VPS server. However, I am having difficulties configuring it. Here is what I did for you to know where I made a mistake.

Given: VPS, 2 IP addresses (ex: A.B.C.D. and E.F.G.H.)

As example, imagine I want to setup VPS to host HostingDiscussion.com.

After loggin in WHM with root username/password, in "Basic cPanel/WHM Setup" I fill out:

Main Shared Virtual Host IP: A.B.C.D.
Hostname: hostingdiscussion.com
Primary Nameserver: ns1.hostingdiscussion.com
Secondary Nameserver: ns2.hostingdiscussion.com

Then, in "Account Function", I create a new account for "hostingdiscussion.com" domain name with its own username and password (so I can get access to Cpanel).

I then go to domain registrar and set domain name nameservers to ns1.hostingdiscussion.com and ns2.hostingdiscussion.com

After doing so, I keep receiving an incredible amount of emails titled "named on server.hostingdiscussion.com failed‏" and content:
"named failed @ Tue Aug 12 16:12:37 2008. A restart was attempted automagically."

Then one of the emails received says:

IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email. The hostname (server.hostingdiscussion.com) resolves to . It should resolve to A.B.C.D. Please be sure to correct /etc/hosts as well as the 'A' entry in zone file for the domain. Some are all of these problems can be caused by/etc/resolv.conf being setup incorrectly. Please check this file if youbelieve everything else is correct. You may be able toautomaticly correct this problem by using the ' Add an A entry for yourhostname ' under ' Dns Functions ' in your Web Host Manager

I cannot access the site using Domain Name, but I can use account IP address to access the site and its CPanel.

Any :help: is appreciated.

I am not sure if this is applicable, but in docs of Cpanel I found the following:

11 Enter the current hostname of your server in the Hostname field.

NOTE: Your hostname should be a Fully Qualified Domain Name that will not be used elsewhere on the server. You should never set your hostname to an name that is already used (www, ftp, mail, etc) or to the name of an account on the server (www.domain.com). This means that your hostname should never be a domain name and especially not the name of your domain!!

http://www.cpanel.net/docs/whm/WebHost_Manager_User_Manual.htm#Add_an_A_Entry_for_your_Hostname.htm

Does this mean that nameserver has to be different than "hostingdiscussion.com"?

Hey,

The first thing to do would be to check your /var/log/messages to see why named is failing.

Regarding the hostname, you will need to set up an Alias so that it forwards to an IP.

Thanks for the comments. While I don't know how to do this myself, I forwarded your recommendation to support department.

in WHM, go to DNS section, edit hostingdiscussion.com zone -> add an A record, name as "server" and value is A.B.C.D. Save and try to restart BIND
