Colocation Hosting

You can not compare collocation and VPS as they are totally different.

Collocation is where you own your own server hardware and have a datacenter house it for you.

Where as a vps is a server split into numerous virtual servers.

As Gareth-HostRedD stated it's totally different.

Colocation is the space you rent in a Datacenter to put your hardware (server, router, switch etc...) to host your VPS on this hardware.

For the internet connexion speed it depends witch Datacenter you choose cause the datacenters didn't have the same uptream providers.

For the security... it's more secure to own your hardware but it's cost more at the start cause you need to buy your own hardware...

Is colocation hosting better than VPS hosting in terms of security, internet connection ?

To answer your question. Yes, colocating your own equipment is more secure and stable. The primary reason is because it is not sharing bandwidth or server resources.

Collocating your own equipment can be more secure and stable, but not always. This depends on the comparative hardware specs, the degree to which security specs on each server is locked down, and who is maintaining that service. If you're a small to mid sized company collocating your servers and they have an issue, IT staff that handle them may or may not be available 24/7/365. Servers have a sneaky way of going down on New Year's Eve when everyone is out partying - or when your lone IT guy is out sick.

<patting self on back>

That is why you colocate your gear at a company that shows up at 1AM on New Year's to fix your problems ;)

In nearly 20 years that has happened on more than one occasion.

Co-location is placing your own hardware in a data centre and paying for the rack and network... while VPS is leasing a virtual server from a hosting provider. The choice between both of them really depends on your budget and requirements.

@Leasedlayer.com You are supposed to offer VPs and dedicated serves, as it is written on your website. At the same time you went to ask a question that is expected to be asked by someone new to web hosting. Such questions does not help you to build reputation in any web hosting community, that's for sure!

There are already many well-established web hosting firms nowadays that offer affordable web site hosting plans with excellent capacity and quality. This just gets to show that the market of budgeted web hosting is lively and competitive.
