Every Wednesday, CIRA drops thousands of .CA domains back into general registration through the TBR (To-Be-Released) process. Most of it is noise, dead blogs, defunct businesses, expired junk nobody's fighting for. But buried in there every single week are nice gems: two and three character domains, clean dictionary words, brandable two-word combos.
Digging through 10,000+ entries yourself isn't realistic, so starting this week I'm going to post a curated shortlist here pulling from two of the sharper lists in the space: CanSpace and Web Hosting Canada (WHC).
What are some of the more successful domain backorder registrars? Based on track record and personal experience, here is the shortlist of registrars worth using:
WHC
BareMetal
Grape
MyID Warning: while the registrar still shows decent TBR results, its processing orders with significant delays, leading to user complaints
Webnames
Note that if more than one registrar or person has the domain on backorder, it usually goes to auction (each backorder registrar has different rules regarding the auction process).
Drop lists can be found:

If you're backordering, get your bids in ahead of Wednesday's window. And if you spot something worth grabbing on either list, or dig up your own gem elsewhere, drop it in the thread.
To register a .CA domain, you must meet the CIRA Canadian Presence Requirements, which prove a legitimate legal or personal connection to Canada, such as being a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a corporation registered in Canada.
