Christmas 2005

On average, how much per person, in your IMMEDIATE family (Brothers, Sisters, Mom, Dad, Kids, Spouse, what have you), will you spend this year? $100, $200, $300, More?!?

I have told my better half, I will only spend X amount on each kid, after that, it's your responsibility.

How much of what you spend on Christmas will be spent online? 25, 50, 75 percent?

For me, the majority so far of what I've spent on Christmas has been online, but now that it's November, and Christmas is just under 2 months away, some of the store deals will meet or beat out the online deals.

And one other question that kind of ties in with this thread, do you wake up before the sun on Black Friday and hit the stores?

I don't know how to repond to your poll since we spend far more on kids than we do on each other. For instance, we'll probably spend $300-400 on our daughter, but only <$100 on each other.

Most of our Xmas shopping is done at ground level.

Around $150 per family member.
I will take friends out.

I usually never spend a lot of time shopping. Primarily because I know what I am getting before I walk out the door. For me its quick - arrive to store, collect the gifts, pay and get out. If I can make a purchase online, I will do it. I am not a big fan of Christmas shopping rush.

See and for me, Vito, the spending is the other way around this year. The youngest punched the laptop in a fit of rage and broke the LCD screen, which dropped what I am spending on him down so I could spend more to replace the laptop, which will be given to Teresa. So that alone will be about $600-$700, which easily trumps what I will be spending on the two heathens.

And I'm with Art on the whole, in - out thing, except we have a tradition where my Dad and I take the families out and we all go shopping at the mall. We split up, boys one way - girls another and we shop for a few hours in the mall. We'll go out to eat and then go home. It's usually a good time.

John, a very nice tradition. It might take all day, but shopping with all the family members must be so cool. The only thing is - everyone knowns what you are getting for each other, so where does the surprise part come in? :)

$400 must be close to the total value of all the Chistmas presents I've received from my parents till the age of 18. :) Funny thing, I still consider that I had a happy childhood.

I have no sum in mind when it comes to presents, but I imagine the total sum won't be over $100. One of the small benefits of living in a poor country I guess. :)

Art, that's the beauty of it. See, I never really have a chance (save for online) to shop for Teresa without her knowing. So I shop on this day for her, and her daughter, while she shops for my little punk and I. The guys take one car, and the girls another - and the presents stay hidden and safe.

I keep the presents for everyone at work, locked away. Would be hard for them to find 'em :)

Just thinking of Christmas 05 gets me excited, even thouch its about 2 months away. I proboly wont spend more than $100, merely because I don;t have the money that you guys have here. Hopefully I can get some cool stuff though? Anyone want anything inparticular? I want to go SkyDivng :)

Hard question to answer.

When I go Christmas shopping I usually wander around for days just looking at stuff.
When I see something that would be perfect for a particular person I grab it.

Sometimes it is an expensive gift and sometimes it can be quite inexpensive. It's always something specific to the individual though.

Erm, I must have missed it. Artashes is Headhunter now?? :uhh:

Cool. So you all have a family shopping excursion. Except, be careful with that. By nature, women love to browse, walk around, browse more, walk around more, browse more, walk around more, browse more, walk around more, browse more, walk around more, browse more, walk around more, browse more, walk around more, browse more, walk around more, well, you get the idea.

Meanwhile, men tend to be like missiles. Get in, buy, get out. In record time.

So how you combine the two into one trip is beyond me. (Unless the guys get their shopping done in 20 minutes and spend the rest of the time at the sports bar).

Funny you mention that. Children usually don't care how expensive the gift is. Far too many years I remember our daughter playing with the box that the cheapest toy came in for hours. Meanwhile, the rest of the expensive toys remained dormant on the floor.

Sometimes, we as adults should try to clue in that price doesn't matter for kids. The simplest of presents give them tremendous joy.

Oh, I agree Vito - we don't go overboard on him, I think last year his most expensive toy was his Bat Cave, which did entertain him for hours, and he got his use out of it. But even the $1 ninja's from Target were among the first toys he played with.

As far as the shopping goes, we usually say, "Meet back at this time and we'll go eat." We're usually done before then so yeah, it's either the bar or the arcade :)

Travel Hopefully, so spend at least $1500 for an airline ticket :twocents:

But I really want to shop on boxing day, hopefully somebody can get me something on that day if I am out on vacation ~

I know bestbuy and futureshop will be full of ppl there ~ :forK:
