Can you compare WordPress to Joomla?

When it comes to CMS, can you compare WordPress to Joomla?

If you were to start an online magazine - which of the two would you have went with? Can you even compare them in the same category of content management systems, or are they two completely different applications (from a purpose point of view)?

From a webmaster point of view I would choose wordpress. I have worked with both and eventually switch anything I have running Joomla over to wordpress. I just like it better and like how it seems easier to manage things like categories, tags, friendly URL's. I also have a list of basic plugins I use on all of my sites which include the all in one SEO pack, feedburner feeds to name just two out of a list of 10 or so.

From a readers point of view I really don't think they would care what you use as long as the site worked, was functional and delivered content that they would come back daily for and subscribe to. For 99.9% of people who come to your site they probably don't even know what wordpress or Joomla is and I would say that a lot wouldn't know the difference between a blog and a regular site... your site is just a website to them regardless of what backend powers the site.

So... you just need to use what you are comfortable with. For me, that is wordpress.

You could also look in to the technical side a bit more like the security of each, how much they can scale (if you are planning a website in a very busy sector). For me, wordpress has been good for me too.

I actually like both but I still reserve Wordpress for blogging. Joomla is more like a complete CMS to me.

I will categorize this in to 2 different covering area.

I would prefer to use word press, if my side is for blog or articles base due to convenient and friendly user.

But I would like to use joomla if post the item in business or area.

I think that will be reasonable to go with the one you are most experienced with and with help of which you can reach what you are looking for.

Wouldn't you want to throw in, "which also has the better customer support" or has better support overall?

Anyways, I'd go with Wordpress. It looks more professional, and I've seen a lot more from WP than I have from Joomla nonetheless.

Joomla can work but its like pulling teeth to get it to do what you need it to do. Wordpress on the other hand is like being at the dentist doing something hard (getting your teeth ripped out) but with the med's to make the job easier for you. :D

thats pretty funny - cause its true:)

I'm pretty much in the group with everyone else here with regards to WordPress. It's probably one of the easiest blogging tools I've worked with.

Joomla is much more designed for content management and design. It's a great tool as a portal script (similar to what PHPNuke was back in the day). While you could use it for publishing articles etc, I'd personally go back to WordPress for that.

They both have their own focus, and as a publishing tool, Joomla is hard to beat. As a blogging script, Wordpress beats all others pretty much.

joomla is better for me..

If you have time, just try both and decide yourself. I like joomla better and I created a magazine website with joomla.

WP and joomla

Yeah, you got to try both.. I know lots of people have different ideas about WP and joomla..

Joomla is very difficult to understand if you don't have any programing knowledge but you can able to design and develop complicated website application in it. While in other hand WP is easy to understand and it is useful to create blog as well as a good website.

WP is the easiest portal I ever seen and also powerful, but if you want a more professional one, then Joomla is a good choice!

I know right? :D Really though Joomla is fine if someone wants to work with it but I do not have time to fight with something, I want something works when I start it and if I wanted to hack away and make it look amazing it should not take me months to do so. Maybe I am just odd or something, I like things to be simple but still nice, complex takes time and time = money.

wordpress could be easier but doesn't provide prefessional look.. Everyone can do a website with wordpress
