Can he do it?

Roger Federer keeps breaking his own ATP ranking records. One of the most critical ones are the number of consecutive weeks being #1 ranked tennis player.

CONSECUTIVE WEEKS AT No.1
Jimmy Connors 160
Ivan Lendl 157
Roger Federer 116
Pete Sampras 102

He has to hold out till next year to be the absolute leader and break the all-time tennis record of both old and open era.

Who thinks he can or can't do it?

I didn't follow his play, so my guess will be a lottery. I say he'll do it.

But in the end he's young enough. Even if he fails now, he might do it later. :)

Love the tennis.. and in Aus, Federer is one of the favorites.

He's quite a unique player, and is about the only one currently on the tour that can break any of those records :)

There doesn't seem to be a lot of competition out there that will challenge him for #1 any time soon Art.
If anyone, Roddick may have a resurgence and give him a run but I don't see much else out there.

Apart from the fact that Roddick's game has been declining, there is not much power and smarts in him left.
Pete Sampras put it correctly: The only competition that Roger Federer is going to have in the next 5 years are the record books.
