Can anyone tell me about certain domain WHOIS

I have a friend that changed her whois domain info to another address thats not hers because she says she prefers things private and I told her that doing that only was gonna cause her domain suspension and loss of her investment and she just didnt believe me

It's against the rules for ICANN to do something like that. You must provide valid information. Besides, lets say someone hijacks the domain name, with invalid information, how's she going to prove that the domain is really hers.

If she wants things to be private, you can use privacy protection - most domain registrars off this for free (some still charge $8/year). X'ing out the information or putting false information is also invalid.

If you report the WHOIS information as being invalid, the registrar can suspend the domain name from operation.

There is no sense to use false address. She has to believe you. :agree:
 
Ye thats what I told her she was foolish but girls dont listen,the other good thing I didnt tell'er was what handson said pretty acurrate that is a double edge sword that can make her also not giving proofs it is hers,I also told her of the privacy protection that they sell but she says most of her friends do it like that,well whichever if she dont listen she dont listen thank you guys
 
I totally agree with Conor. If your friend wants whois privacy, she should just pay for privacy or move to a registrar that provides it for free. But she should not falsify her whois info. That is just a really bad idea. :disagree:

If dhe doesn't end up believing you or doesn't order WhoIS Privacy (few dollars or free depending on registar) then she'll learn a valuable lesson when/if she loses her domain.

Best of Luck. If she is really concerned, just tell her to open a P.O Box even though it is more expensive then WhoIS Privacy.
 
You must provide valid information for the whois databases. Also when you register your domain name. Most people register it using there home address. Which is fine if you want. But if your running a business or plan on running a business. A physical address for that business would be better than having your home address viewable. not only that any who looks t your website can ultimately find out where you live because all that information is in the whois database. I recommend always using a business address.
 
I told her that I see tons of guys using p.o. box in address,but is not that well recommended nothing like real address because its querried and rebooted in an ICANN procedure

Changing the domain name registration information with a wrong one is unethical. You may lost your domain name at any moment. Every online person should be careful of such domain privacy info. Thanks

I disagree, Most Domain registars, Do not offer the Privacy protection for free. Example: Hostgator, Registering a domain through them is an extra $15/year for Privacy protection.
 
If you're still paying $15 for domain privacy, you need to shop around - MOST (yes, most) registrars are doing this service for free these days. Hostgator is not a domain registrar (yet - although they have applied for it). They are a domain RESELLER - totally different ball of wax. They register domains on behalf of someone - a registrar is actually the people who register the domains with iCANN (no 3rd party)

Hostgator make their money by selling to end users, and if they're getting $15 for privacy, good for them - but there are plenty of places that give it away for free.

The whois information is protected sometimes .
Some registrars offer whois privacy protection for free, and when there is such a promo, I take advantage of it. But otherwise, I don't really bother to pay extra for this service. I know my address and email are open for public viewing ,but I am too stingy to pay for it, I guess
 
I've had registrars call and mail me to verify information. If she has the wrong info in the whois registry, she will eventually lose her domain.
