Can an american ps2 work in the UK?

Im thinking about buying a ps2 while im in the states and taking it back with me.
I would have to use a convertor as the power supply is different for the voltage.
American games as NSTC (Or something like that) but europe/uk is PAL, Would the american games work without any problems on my TV in europe and could I use PAL games in the american ps2?
Is there anything else I have to think about also?

Dont know too much about the ps2 but interested in getting it to play a few games and DVDs mainly.

Hope someone can help because I searched so many forums and none told me exactly if i could do everything i asked about above

This is something I've looked into (being as we're doing the emigrating thang before long).

From what I've read, using a power converter on such a delicate piece of machinery isn't recommended. It may work, it may not. Best to be safe, and have one PS2 in the States, and one here. Then, buy something called a Region X disc, which reprograms the PS2s and makes them inter-region compatible.

By the way, there's a PS2 for sale at our house if you want one! :)

A friend of my dads moved from america to the uk. They use the same playstation 2 but they have to use something called freeloader to play the uk games. Something to do with region protection.

I think it was a playstation they had. I'm not 100% sure.

I forgot about that.. how the power and such is different.. I was like "why wouldn't it work?" until I acutally thought about it and read it :P

I have no idea if it would work.. sorry

Ok thats great advice :)
Gooooogle would you be able to find out if it was a ps2?
Would love to know if someone has done it or know someone that has brought a ps2 from the states to europe.
I dont mind about using a thing for playing the UK games, isnt too much hassle and they are pretty cheap anyway.
Thanks!

Call Sony. For example, I work at IBM and our servers are required to be tested under all different power voltages including other country configurations. I don't work with that team but I know if IBM is doing it then Sony is probally also. It should work I would assume just by using the correct power converter. But, don't hold me to my words but I think with the power converter it will be ok.

Wouldn't it just be easier to wait till you got back home?

Good bit cheaper here and I got far too much money changed into $$ so may as well use it for something

Thanks Robert, think the best thing to do is just ask the person in the shop because they should know. Will go to one thats just for consoles/games
Thanks for the help everyone!

Let us know how you get on and whether it works or not, it would be useful to know :)

Still, why get a PS2 when a good PC can be much better!

Decided not to get one GamesCreation, not worth spending the money, taking it back to Ireland then finding out there is one problem or another, may as well just buy one at home if I want it.

have upgraded my PC but dont really like playing games on the PC, havent played any in ages but I dont know if the games I want are available for the PC, its just something to play when I have people around, Im a big kid at heart really :D

Cant even remember the last game I played though, normally working or else out/with family so dont get too much time.
Good when friends bring their kids around too, gives them something else to do :)
