Building your own computer

I want to buy another computer but I want to buy all the parts and build it myself.

What would you pay to build your own computer and what components would you focus most on?

Who is good to buy parts from?

Have you ever built your own PC?

Built the one I'm typing this very message from!

I used cclcomputers.co.uk for the majority of my parts. Inexpensive (for the UK!) and well worth it, especially when you know exactly what motherboard/cpu/graphics card you want.

Focus on the 3 components I mentioned above, and all will be well. Oh, and go with a HD that spins at 7200rpm or above, not the 5400rpm ones. :)

Hi John,

I agree with kink - focus on the motherboard and CPU you want.

try tigerdirect.ca - not sure what the shipping charges to Europe will look like, but their prices are spectacular.

Also, focus on the case - this is more important then you think... Dont want to be squeezing your hands into a minitower...

Graphics cards, memory, optical drive - if you're patient and shop around, you can get a good deal from ebay...

Im jealous, I love when I take on building a PC as a project - far too much fun....

You could try novatech.co.uk, not the cheapest - but - after sales is good.

They also do very good value motherboard/cpu/heatsin/ram packages, tested before it leaves. :D So no nasty surprises.

Next the GFX card - you don't need the latest just depends what you need it for.

HDD's - you could go for SATA (serial ATA) which is very fast or at least 7200rpm ATA drives.

DVD rewriter - not much point not getting one now - you can get an 8x writer for £70-80 now, and a standad DVD drive.

The bit most folks forget - the case - at least a midi tower with a case fan, not just the PSU one, and a 300watt PSU is a bare minimun now.

Anything else is personal choice now, most M/B's have onboard sound which now is very acceptable quality, again depends on application.

Start your shopping lists.................NOW :D

I know a few Canadian/USA sites...

NCIX.com
Robotnik.com
TigerDirect.ca
FactoryDirect.ca

and you can search for cheap stuff on
BBF.ca (I think this is the site)
