Browser HiJacker!

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know of a cool tool I have been using for about 2 months now to clean up IE's active background processes (used for popups and other nasty stuff)

The tool is called HiJackThis.exe

You can get this file from http://www.download.com for free.

I use this with Registry Clean Mechanic and a nice virus scan and it cleans your machine right up.

P.S Dont tell my boss... we charge $55 to have this done as a 'Computer Tune Up' at our shop

I have FireFox. It was previously Mozilla Firebird wasnt it? Then they were confronted and said they would get sued or something. So they released a new version under a new name.

Wow I didnt know about the name change, I use firebird at the minute.
Guess I have to update it sometime soon, have never updated it since I downloaded months ago.

Haha do you just run that program on the PC for $55?
What exactly does the program do?
Stop popups?
Wouldnt it stop legit popups if you dont have an option to allow them?

It loads up in list checkbox format all the stuff running in the background that is potentially dangerous. You have to go through and manually select and remove it.

Then we run the registry cleaner which cleans up deadlinks etc.

Then the virus scan to check for trojans/viruses.

Then we run windows updates.... and y es people pay $55 for that. Kinda funny.

Registry Clean Expert cost us $39.99 though, and we have a special Virus CD that has PC-Cillin, Norton, F-Prot, Bit Defender, McAffee which cost like $189.99 It allows you to install the virus program 1 time.. and use it once... then it auto deletes itself so you cant leave copies on peoples machines. Kinda cool

Wow thats a huge amount for people to pay for that.
A lot of businesses would pay even more for that kind of thing though simply because they dont know how to do it or dont have time.

You must be making huge profit from doing that anyway because it wouldnt take too much work, scanning is just click a button and let it work, the others wouldnt take too long to do either.

This just goes to show how stupid some people can be.

Windows is a bad OS, use it if you have to, but use it in a smart way.

IE is a bad browser, dont use it and avoid that kind of truble.

FireFox is version 0.8... firebird was 0.7.
They changed the name for legal reasons... there is an easy installer for windows so there is no excuse for you guys not to upgrade :p

Best,
Eugene.

This just goes to show how stupid some people can be.

Moves his mouse and clicks the mozilla.org link to upgrade saying "Im not stupid"

Dont know if that was also to me for not upgrading but just incase ;) hehe

I havent had any problems with firebird and dont know of any security issues so I havent upgraded.
I use Windows for everything, I dont have enough time to install linux in another partition and dont have a spare computer to install it on.
I use to code every day for a few years and I needed windows for that, I havent coded in a while but I will be soon and I cant do it on Linux.

I have a lot of things installed on my PC for security but theres always going to be some way of getting attacked/hacked/a virus.

Will be going to check that out later Jon, thanks for the link :)

Woah, That tool is amazing.. It worked like a charm although some stuff is still there, should be clean with another sweep of spybot s&d
Thanks for the tip!
