After allowing my frined to borrow one of my games, the CD came returned basically ruined. I've now learnt not to let people borrow my cds

However, it was for a game I really like, but cant be bought any more. I really miss playing this game. Is there anything that can be done?

Any help apreciated

Go to a local game/best buy store and get one of those cd things that are green, those work pretty well. They look like a frisbe with a handle, I believe they are like $30 bucks.

Which side do you mean?
Do you mean the top side which has the print on it?
Why did your friend cut out parts of your CD anyway?
If you scratch the top of a CD I dont think you can use it as the laser writes to the CD and there is a metalic surface which stores the data, dont think it will work if that is scratched off the CD

I love old retro games. It's a real shame abandonware is not legal. If a company does not distribute it anymore and never will why should they stop others from handing it out. The only thing they are doing is making sure the game goes lost forever.

I didnt know about that gooooogle, do companies do that?
I thought if they were going to stop development on it and werent getting sales anymore then they would allow people to distro it, then it would get their name known, good marketing for free ;)

Some do that but not the creators of Space Quest, Police Quest, Kings Quest etc which in my view are the best games around.

If no-one has it, even the Distribuitor and you Paid for the Original CD why don't you try downloading it from the Internet?

Since you have the Right since you paid for that CD...

Just my $0.02 Cents :D

Also, you can try to contact the manufacture. Even if they do not sell it anymore they still have to do warranty claims and usually for 7 years from when the product released. A claim such as the CD broke is valid and they should either replace it for free or replace it for a small service fee. That is if the company is still in business but if not then not sure what to tell you. If all else fails try finding it on the net. Because you have a valid CD a replacement from "any" source would still keep your license for the game valid.
