'Broadband Switchover'

Many Internet Server Providers are still providing Dialup as a available option, isn't about time we start to get everyone onto Broadband. Both sides of the Atlantic are getting ready for a Digital Switchover (starting from November this year) now I think its about time Dialup goes along with the obsolete items such as Floppy Disks, Record Players and TheWB Television Network

While I am all in for broadband, keep in mind not all residential areas are equipped for it.
For example, there are many North American suburb areas that do not have broadband infrastructure, so for them dial-up is the only solution.

I am also guessing not everyone can afford broadband service prices.

Best,

Not only can't afford broadband ... but also find anything more than dialup to be "overkill" for what they need the internet for. Example ... I know a lot of people that use the internet & their computers only for email.

If I didn't have to upload to & download from my websites ... I sure wouldn't have broadband.

Dialup is actually quite expensive. I believe before the rebrand to Virgin Media, Telewest charged £15.00 per Month now a 2Mbit Unlimited Download Broadband is about £18.00 per Month.

Very true. My gramps lives on a very rural farm area and they ONLY have access to dialup. I don't think they will really EVER get broadband there. The cost would be too much for the company, especially when not many people live around his area. Though satelite net would have to be the only option and I'm not even sure how fast and reliable it would be even.

In the US you can get dialup for $9 per month, while broadband starts at @ $25 for 128 kbps. If you want it faster, you pay more.

I can count my mother in that "lot". There's nothing wrong with simple having needs. She using a prepaid dialup card and ends up spending probably under 1 euro per month for her internet connection needs.

i agree with you. dial up is way out of date and lets face it, broadband can actually now be a cheaper option then dial up now considering the minute by minute costs invoilved in dial up
