Hello everyone and i am sorry for my english (i am greek  )
we just buy one dedicaded server .Our hosting company tell us that the best Os is CentOS 3.4 Linux and the best Cp is cpanel/WHM but everything is compiated to me ..The first time i log in there was a problem whith apache server and don work at all.
  1. Unable to obtain apache version information. Your apache server at My.Ip may be down, or unreachable.
So we have the same problem all night.i ask them why this problem happent and tll me the cpanel/WHM is not the best...whith CentOS 3.4 .So there is the problem for me
All i want is one simple site and i don;t have much time to learn all of these..I want to ask you which is the Best Os and the best Cp (easyones) for me..thanx you! :crazy2:

CentOS is one of the best Linux distros. It is same as RHEL, we are using it on our server and is working very well. Regarding control panel for linux, i prefer Cpanel/WHM.

In your server Apache is working ?

You can try recompiling Apache, also upgrade Cpanel.

The "best" is very relative, and very much based only on opinion.

I personally believe that your host or server provider telling you which OS, or CP was best, was overstepping their boundaries.

A client should do research prior to a sale, to find what best suits their needs. After the fact, when you find that the you've chosen the wrong OS or CP for your needs, it's then going to cost you money.

it never got to work..i restart the the service (httpd) but nothing
I upgraded the Cpanel but nothing again..So eventually i decided to set up
PLESK which is so simple for a newbie admin  whith Red Hat Linux 9.0..it is a prerequisite..Do you think it is going to fine?Has anyone ever used it before?

As Mark said, it's opinion. I prefer Red Hat and CPanel.

But, if you are as you said, a newbie admin, you're better off going with what you're comfortable with and easier. At a later time you can always switch over if needed.

Redhat and cpanel, ouch... why do datacenters still offer that with cpanel... rh9 isnt even supported! Personally ive used fedora (core2 also no longer supported if i remember correctly), cent0s, and rhell (;)) with cpanel and they have all treated me good

From what I'm reading on CPanel.net; RedHat Enterprise Linux 2.1 & 3, RedHat Enterprise Linux (x86_64) 3, and RedHat Linux (Fedora-Legacy) 7.3 & 9 are all supported.

Yes, they are supported by CPanel, but he was referring to the OS not being supported the it's manufacturer.

I don't know if there is one best OS and CP, I believe people get used to working with a certain setup and stay with it.

We personally use WHM/CPanel and RedHat Enterprise Linux, and so far none of it has given me problems and is pretty stable. Also, WHM/CPanel supports all RHEL releases. I am using it myself ;)

In regards to Plesk, I find that it may be easy but it is certainly not powerful. I've switched from Plesk to CPanel and its been going great. Plesk is kinda buggy and it barly has any options at all. CPanel might be a bit harder to understand but once you understand you won't regret you got it.
