Backing Up

I've been overed space on a backup server to make a complete site dump to it and then make it available to download via ftp for a modest fee.

Is it worth it?

No, Inless you are running a webhosting company i wouldnt bother.

for 2 reasons.

1. If you are with a decent webhost they most likley make backups.

2. You can make a backup onto your pc via Cpanel.

These are Free,

What pay for backups when you can get it for free?

But PC's can get damaged, and with a site that's around 300mb big, maybe bigger by the time I'm finished, it'll take a lot to download and re-upload. Doing it to the backup server and being able to restore easily is a lot better.

Plus, it can backup automatically, and I wouldnt have to download stuff manually

Thats all true, But it depends if you are willing to pay if so do it.

But it download a 300MB site only takes aroun 20min for me and to upload around 1 1/2 hours. As i am on a 3MBit cable line. Not sure about you.

Belive me i had to upload a 400MB vb forum database. :( ahh that was not fun.

You can never backup too much. If you value your data then take every opportunity you can.

Also look into your host and see how they handle their data backups.
