I was wondering if it's possible to use an avatar. I noticed John has one and if we can I've found one I want to use

Click on User CP, then Edit Options. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page. That lets you set your avatar (or it should, at any rate.)

You can use a Avatar when you have 600 posts.

The wording on the FAQ is a little misleading. Currently, it reads:

If you have more than 600 posts, you may also specify your own custom avatar.

There's nothing about when you can use any board-provided ones (though there don't seem to be any provided by the board, either - so, hm.)

There are no avatars available for members with under 600 posts because there are no avatars uploaded.

I could upload some avatars for members under 600 posts but havent thought about it before really.

Would it not make pages too slow to load if everyone had the option to use an avatar?

You can turn avatar viewing off in your profile. Just click on User CP | Edit Options and then down under "Thread View Options | Show user's avatar in their posts", click "No".
