Article: WindowsXP To Be Obsoleted

i guess most of you know that this awesome OS will soon meet it's demise by 2010.
All support will be gradually reduced by that time.

and yet, Vista is not a great replacement with all those hardware and software incompatibilities.

petitions are pouring into microsoft to at least extend WindowsXP before a replacement for Vista is avilable.

The petitions went unheeded so far. We'll see if the sustained pressure will eventually make them change their position. There's still some time remaining.

Hardly an "awesome" operating system.
The original termination was long before 2010 and I would say that by that time there will be a version of Vista that is far superior to the current one.

While I might miss my XP, I'm more than willing to find a way to survive without support if need be and Vista hasn't been straightened out yet (or I don't just go to a Mac or linux). Microsoft never planned on making any operating system permanent and we all knew that. I can't say I use Microsoft support much anyway.

Hardly an "awesome" operating system.
Compared to the older ones (95, 98), it was quite a step forward. I can see how people grew very fond of it. I say let them dump XP, for we might see more people trying out Linux. As an end user, I'm all for a real competition in the desktop market. :)

I've had no problem with Vista, and fail to see why an already 7 year old desktop OS should be supported even further than it currently is. While I agree that XP was a great advancement, I believe that XP at this point would mainly be a good selection for a lesser performing system.

Windows XP is the best operational system I have ever used.Even when Windows Vista appeared, I still continued to use XP as Vista needs much more system resources and frankly speaking, this OS is not a success of Microsoft.

It will take some time to work out Vista's problems. I do wonder why they didn't just improve on XP. Many people have bought Vista only to go back to XP. I bought a new computer in January and am glad that I didn't bow to the sales man at best buy, instead going elsewhere and finding a new XP.

I have installed vista and now i will reinstall the XP since vista is not yet finished i think, they still have a lot to work at it.
