This is a great topic I would like to see more in depth discussion on. Recently I began doing some small seo on our site and one of the things I was looking at working towards were backlinks. One way of getting backlinks was to do article submissions. However when trying to write the articles I found myself gravitating towards articles about experiences I had with setting this up and that up and in doing that I have to of course reference the items I am using and the urls. Needless to say the articles got blocked because they were considered advertising.

I am finding the whole article submission thing annoying and confusing.
 
I'd say it's quite a old school SEO method. For sure it'll still work but how effectivie it is would depend on the quality of the article + the website it's being submitted to.

I'd recommend considering posting to blogs that are high quality.
