Hi guys, I'm new to linux hosting. I saw this ad url "http://www.webhost4life.com/linux199.asp" on google. It's a $1.99 month deal with 2000gb of space, 20,000gb of bandwidth and unlimited domain names. Anyone used this service? I want to sign up but want to see if anyone used first to get some extra info.

Looking at their plan and what they promise... I'd suggest to move in at your own risk. This company is certainly overselling like I've never seen before. They might say they've been in business for 8 years, but the resources they offer for the price is beyond me.

If you want to use it for testing, it might be ok, if they dont keep charging to your credit card. Otherwise, if you're seriously looking for a good - high uptime web, it can be avoided. Too much overselling will give you downtime, no doubt. Or you can just use html, cannot use dynamic content, etc.

also, please google search this domain/company and see if you can turn up any reviews. If not, i would be cautious moving your site their. Take a look at webhostingstuff.com, they are a reputable directory of many hosts.

I can't say it's a place not to visit, but fact is hosts can get (some of) their negative reviews removed, and the uptime can also be altered. Besides, like any uptime monitoring, it would take monitoring a good number of servers, not just one, to judge a host with a modicum of accuracy.

Monitoring is an important thing to know how the company works. Which ones do you use?

well, i beg to disagree.
not all 199hosting services are over-selling.
there are still some great hosts out there giving our
value-added services at a very affordable cost.

less doesn't mean always low quality.
my 2cents.:shh:

well yes and sort of --

if you have a small little site you might not notice the problems, but if you get an abundance of emails and have some traffic you will notice problems such as emails go missing, latency issues, etc

also at times the problems are not there as you might be the first on the server, but over time the server is crowded as hell and the sluggishness begins.

here are a few tricks these low end low prices hosting companies do

i can offer you all the water (bandwidth) you need - but the tap only lets out a drop a minute - good luck with it!!

I can offer you all the web space disk space you need - but in the fine print - email storage is 50Mb - (most storage is email)

also note, if you use 10% of server resources you will be suspended and shutdown

$1.99 a month - on a 36 month prepaid contract - why is that? why not accept month to month? i think i know why? they are banking on a few things all which are not good for you as a consumer.

they have a short term vision and want to cut out at some point -

so I say be carefull with low cheap hosting because you get what you pay for -

but i also agree - its not always like that but i think in most cases it is

like most things you get what you pay for
