Anyone running a free hosting service or looking to open one?

I would never automate a free hosting since that would be trouble. All they have to do is have the account setup and spam as soon as it is automated :( they will use it and abuse it

We currently do free hosting, and have for years.

Each application is ran through manually, checking for obviously false names, addresses, etc. We also require free clients to re-authenticicate their email addresses periodically. Further, we check the content of some sites randomly, looking for warez or other TOS violations.

Its a good bit of work :P

We force a Google AdSense banner on the sites, and oversell the single server which we stuff these accounts on like heck :P

Of course, that server is a bit up and down, down at the moment.

We also allow people to get "instant" activation for $1, and remove the ads (but remain on that server) for $15 per year.

It is absolutely impossible not to oversell free hosting. Spaceports, I recall, often had to add new HDDs due to space issues.

when i get my hosting service, i do plan on adding a free hostiing plan, but I would monitor it very often as well have the membreship viewed before allowing them service. though atm i have the plan of making my free host allowed to user who already have a website and just want a better one. that way i can make sure what kind of site im allowing on my server.

though i heard from people that having a free hosting acct could be a bombshell for my hosting, i can see that in a way, but i plan to monitor and check out the accts often to make sure people are obeying the TOS.

I have been heavily involved with several free hosting sites - none have involved instant activation as that just causes trouble.

I am currently working in a free host who has customed coded a script to integrate with WHM.

How is it working out for you, I was going to open a free service until a free client nagged the heck out of me and I realized it was not worth it! LOL!

lol

Well.. I dont need any money in, I paid for my server in a one-off payment ages ago, So I dont need to make profits lol, and as for the nagging customers, I have staff to handle those.

Right First Post Here We Go

Was just curious if anyone was in the market for running a free hosting service or if they are already running one!
yep, iam using some free resources on one of our servers to offer free hosting, its under another domain name, but ill be closing it soon, havent got time for it, sadly...

I do free hosting and have had no problem whatsoever, And you make the money from ads.

It is best to alwasy to manual activation, spammers and hackers will see instant activation and the will go fo it.

Good luck what ever you decide.
