Any big plans for the Memorial Day Weekend?

I'll be helping my son, John, and his wife, Demetria, move to their first house this weekend. Hope to have our pool set up, although the water temperature will be much too cold to swim. Will I brave it - probably.

Well since I'm not in California, my tradition this year will change slightly. Over the past 5 years, myself and a number of military personal (retired or discharged) have made it a tradition to ride our motorbikes to the various vetern hospitals in southern california - Riverside, San Bernadino, Long Beach etc. What started with just a group of 6 of us visiting some of the vets had grown to 30 of us. Unfortunately this year I'm in Omaha, there's no major hospitals around here. I'll likely be at the VFW at some point to say thank you to the men and women that served in the military. While I'm an Irish Citizen, saying thank you to those that have fought to make America what it is (and my ability to live here), is a small token to let those know that I appreciate what they've done and given up.

I know there's a few cermonies here in the greater Omaha Area, so I'm sure I'll meet up with some biker groups and blend in with them too.

Beyond that - work ;)

My girlfriends brother served in Iraq and is now retired is gunna throw a party. The party is for family and fellow soldiers that he served with. Should be a great day.

My plan is to go camping and see a bunch of people from high school that I I haven't seen in in 3 years. Go to love facebook. Its crazy how fast time goes I remember high school like it was yesterday but it was 3 years ago. Can't wait to go fishing. I am the real bassmaster my last name is bass :p

Wow - that's great. I spent some of my best years in San Diego, Riverside and San Bernadino. Did love Southern California. Have never been to Omaha. I know your rides and visits are much appreciated by our vets.

SD (old town) was a stomping grounds for a while. Great for a night out! I lived in Orange County (Fullerton - about 4 miles from Disneyland), so pretty central to everything.

Omaha is about as fun as watching paint dry, but land and housing is cheap, they have a great Tech division (Paypal has their headquarters here, as does InfoUSA and others) - but beyond that, I would never see a reason to visit Omaha ;)

What were you doing in So. Cal?

I was stationed at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot - going through electronics schools, and then at 29 Palms in 9th Comm Battalion - 69, 70 and '71.

That should be a wonderful day. Tell him thank you for his service.

Did you ever get caught up in any sand storms while riding your motorbikes there?

I think I am going over to some family that is not to far off, most times we hit up a BBQ (home made style) and let the kids run wild (they live on a big farm).

I love the idea of visiting the VFW & Hospitals just the same. When I lived up north I did that since I was a VFW kid growing up and knew all about it. :)

I remember high school like it was yesterday but it was 3 years ago. I do too, but mine was more like 31 years ago. :shh:

I kind of miss highschool. It has been a year n half now but I miss walking down the halls and talking to friends and then deciding to skip a class lol

Ahh man, I had some of the koolest teachers. Some of my teachers were so kool that the teacher and I would go back n forth making fun of each other lol I'd call him or her out on something and they would call me out on something...ahhh..good times. :)

I hear you - a year and a half out of high school, I was just starting my tour at 29 Palms Marine Corps Base in the middle of the Mohave Desert (Southern California). Being gone so much, I lost touch with everyone from my High School. All of my teachers have retired by now. LOL.

Actually, I am writing an eBook - but not about me. It'll be something similar to Calvin & Hobbes - about one of my granddaughters adventures. I hope to have it completed by next Christmas.
