Annoying Bug

Does anyone know how to fix this annoying thing...

Every time I restart my PC and open Internet Explorer - it opens on some page (some pay-per-click engine I don't want and didn't want and it seems like it was forced into my system). Every time I set the home page to "blank", yet every time it loads that site.

In addition to that - it automatically writes in 5 or 6 bookmarks into my favorites.

Any theories on how to get rid of it?

Thanks.

Sounds like something has done a silent download into your pc (prob done by real player if you have that).

What OS are you running? - if XP, just roll back.

If your running on something below that, then a quick registry edit should remove your problems :)

go to -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Internet explorer/main

find the string "start page" and edit it - should solve your problem.

Favourites should be straight forward by just deleting them from your favourites folder.

You may want to run ad-aware through your pc to snif out what it is that did that - as my fix should solve your problem, but unless you dig out the file that modded ie in the first place - it will just come back :(

Also check to make sure it hasnt added any "links" or hidden toolbars.etc .etc .etc

Depends on if the software that modified ie is installed on your pc - if so, it will just re-mod your re-installed software :(

ReInstalling didn't help. :(

I'm on XP Pro, but I don't know what you mean by "roll back". You mean System Restore? Wouldn't I lose all the data for the period?
