Account Disabled
I changed an account's name on cpanel with root access but it ended up making my stuff not work at all,and cpanel dont allow me to change it to what it was since it says username is too long,If theres a way to configure cpanel to allow broader usernames on root cpanel please be nice and tell me how.In case theres no way please tell me how to change an account username via SSH ,but please do it step by step

What stuff doesn't work? Does it mean that you cannot access your website or are you just not able to log in your control panel? Either way, just contact your hosting provider. I believe they are more than willing to help you solve the problem.

You are compleately off the wall sherwood

Dear readers is not what sharewood says you see I changed my username in vps root cpanel and since my host transfered to other server he switched to other cpanel that allows less characters in usernames edit so when I tried to recoup my original username due to the fact that my programs lost configuration well it was just imposible.

If someone can tell me if theres a way to program cpanel to admit more characters in usernames please do tell me
or if someone knows how to change cpanel usernames via ssh please explainh procedure step by step because Im not that good on SSH tHaNkS

Perhaps you should contact your host.
It's been 2 days since you made this post. If you host can't help you in that length of time then you should reconsider who you are paying for your hosting.

well then account's usernames have to be broght back to what they was if wished, are they still responsability of ur host?

Do you have a managed VPS? If so, this should be something they should be able to help you with.

And your previously reply to Sherwood was unnecessary. They were only trying to help you. :(

Hi Zoom, I also cannot seem to follow the scenario you're describing. Perhaps it's because it has not happened to me before.

My experience was about changing the primary domain name. I had to seek the cooperation of the host to accomplish it.

I would be excited to hear about your case after you have asked your host about it.

Did you mean change name of cPanel account? You'd better not alter the name if it is not a must for you. Because it will bring you some unexpected errors after changing the name.

The maximum length of a cpanel username can only be 8 letters/numbers long.

As well you might be better off just recreating the account under the new username.

Chances are the reason your site(s) are not working is because when you change the cPanel username it also changes the file path as well as the MySQL database names and usernames.

You'll need to reconfigure any installed scripts to use the new details... Depending on the scripts this can be as simple as editing a single configuration file or as difficult as manually editing entries in a database via phpMyAdmin.

I agree with the others that if your provider is willing to help you, to get their assistance. If they're not ... perhaps you should be on a fully managed service.

If you've a access to WHM(Root) then you can easy change your username, domain, etc from WHM Root.

cPanel Default Maximum username character is: 8 but you can increase this through config file.(not recommended)
