A wish ... but an impractical one

I really wish HD members would choose to share at least some information in their member Profile.

I may be the only one ... but I sometimes come across a post or a response and feel it would help me understand it better, or a persons view point better, if I knew the posters age and/or the country they live in.

But since I do not feel its totally right to start requiring people to share that information ... this is destined to be merely a permanent unfulfillable wish :)

Peter

Sorry, Peter - but I don't post my age online anywhere that it's not mandated by law. I'm as old as my tongue and a little older than my teeth.

I can tell you that I'm US citizen by birth, spent three years living in western Canada, and miss the greenery. (And the Belgian chocolates.)

I don't think that helps much, but...that's as much as you're getting this morning :D

I'm a pices, I like long walks on the beach, I like crabs.......I mean I don't have crabs, I mean I like to eat crabs, I don't mean I go down on dirty women....I mean..............

See this is why I don't give information out

Yeah, I feel that there is more of a uniqueness about my personality, if people who read my threads/posts are getting to know me as we go along. If you hang around for long enough, you start to get to know each other's personalities and character traits and I think that is better than just laying it flat down on the table and saying 'THIS IS HOW IT IS'...

Also, I dont really want to give out my details to all and sundry, because of insecurity and a need for privacy. Yes, a wish...but in my opinion an impractical one!

BTW pmhoran...you've got a really nice post count going there...keep it up! I'm really enjoying reading the contributions that you have given.

Unfortunately, many people are now concerned with their privacy because of identity theft. Like Lesli, I like to keep as much information about me private.

I'll lay it all out - it's my nature to tell it like it is.

I'm 19 - work full time, don't go to school, have been outcasted by the majority of my family because they're of strong christian background and I'm "living in sin" with my girlfriend (soon to be fiancee) and her two kids. I work full time at a non-profit agency that works for the community, I'm their hands on down and dirty tech. I fix the computers for all 20 sites located in Iowa. I do lots of driving for the job but get paid mileage.

I've been running ExonNet for two years, it is profitable, but by no means is it enough to where I can sit down and work on it full time.

I spend most of my time at work (8-9hr days) then after that I go home to my family and on the weekends I either attend some sort of LAN event, sit at home and relax, or visit my dad who lives about an hour away. I never really had him around when I was younger, mostly because my mom is a coniving backstabbing racist whore who likes nothing more than to make sure she is in control of everyone and everything they do. She was "hurt" by my dad when they seperated and so she felt getting back at him through me was the best thing to do. Now I have my dad, not my mom and I like it that way.

Much more than that I don't know what else to tell ya :)

Edit: Oh, I have heart problems - some cool X-Rays of my chest:
http://www.exonnet.net/heart/

Now that's a story Exon! Sorry to hear you have all those problems. At least you seem to be content with the status quo and that's a good thing.

I wish you good health!

That's actually the abridged version :) - At any rate I've been taking Grape Seed Extract, B6, Essential Fatty Acids, Vitamin C, and Green Tea every morning. Get 'em from NewVision.com (There are different percentages and additives, but NewVision's seems to be the best) and it seems to keep the chest pains at bay.

I'd love to hear some stories from others if anyone is willing to share!

Lesli ....
I'm as old as my tongue and a little older than my teeth.
You got that from Miracle on 34th Street ... right???

Ross ... ummmm ... yup ... okay ... ahhhh ... yeah, I can see why :D

Equinox ... I agree with getting to know a personality over time is the best way to get to know the person. But still feel my being able to "see" even where a person is from and when I read their post and realize English is likely a second language I find I sometimes process what is written differently. And knowing even a general age (not specifics necessarily) also helps me understand and process a posting maybe a bit differently. As for my post count ... what can I say? I don't have a life hahahaha :D But ... thanks .

Webfreak08 - Yes, I can understand the need for privacy. But whats the great fear of sharing generalized info. Like I responded to Equinox ... a country & a generalized age like 20's, 30's or whatever?

Exon ... Holy Crap (excuse my French ;) ). Now that is sharing info. Sorry to hear about your heart problems ... it appears you are keeping on top of it though The rest? Well ... shows to go you ... I had you pegged as being a bit older based upon your online persona. But knowing now some of your life experience ... that explains the maturity I had perceived. Maturity gained from experience rather than by years. I am glad you chose to share ... now I definitely know you better ;)

It would be nice ... if people even chose to share a bit about themselves on the Introductions page or generalized info in their Profile if they don't want to share details. The personality ... we all get to know via the persons posts ... the person ... well that usually comes about by what personal info they choose to share.

Since joining this forum ... I am sure I have revealed more about myself than I intended ... and am pretty positive I shared more info about myself than any of you cared to know. But thats me ... my life and I are an open book these days. And if any of you decide you want to know more about me ... you can always go to my website ... which basically has my entire life detailed albeit in a somewhat convoluted way.

Do I worry about identity theft? Yeah ... sort of ... but not really. These days I figure anyone interested in stealing my identity ... as soon as they check it out they wouldn't want it anymore anyway :)

Anyway ... in this day and age ... I know my "wish" still remains mostly an impractical one. And I will just have to learn to live with it ;)

Take care
Peter

Thanks Peter :) Like I said, the story gets more interesting (think you know your family, then find out they're a bunch of pot growin' lesbians and your mind gets blown away :) ) but I won't pull it all up and out.

At any rate, I know you're from Canada, I'm in Cedar Rapids, IA - and it's currently -11F 9which puts it at -23C) here. With windchill it's -26F which is about -32C!!!! It's cold!

Yep. The old version, in black and white. The phrase stuck in my mind as a good way to say "nunyabizniz" without actually saying "I don't give that information out".

There's also the amusement, when saying it to someone's face, of seeing them automatically record the information - then watching the puzzled look as they register what you actually said. :D

Wow, Peter, could you ask for anything more than these wonderful life stories that tell you way more about a person than any forum profile can possibly accommodate?

Best,

Yeah ... I got that movie in my "library" ;) I watch it a few times a year. Its one of the original "feel good" movies :D I have used the same phrase a few times too ... and I too love the reactions. Kind of a puzzlement then a few ... daaaa looks ... and a few TILT expressions ... a resetting of their brain functions and they quickly change the subject hahahaha

Best,

Well ... life stories sure give you an insight what has contributed to the person being the personality we encounter on this forum now. But I would still be quite happy only knowing a persons country and approx age ;) Guess that is just another quirkly little part of my own personality ;)

Peter

I wouldn't say that, but you are (most likely) among the leaders in terms of age. Luckily that often translates into being a leader in terms of wisdom as well, so it's not that bad of a position to be in. :)

Well ... methinks anything I post that might be considered a bit of wisdom would more apt be by luck rather than by design :)
