8.9 Earthquake in Japan

The video from Japan this morning was horrific - hundreds of people dead and many more injured. I tuned into a live stream from Hawaii, but it seems they saw only minor damage there. My thoughts go out this morning to all those with ties to Japan.

Couldn't wish this on anyone, in one swift wave everything washed out from underneath them, both home and lives and communities destroyed :(

It's concerning that such events seem on the increase :(

Wow, I saw some before and after satellite pictures this morning - entire towns washed away. As if the earthquake, tsumani and after shocks weren't enough, now they face a perilous nuclear meltdown. Plus, it's still cold there with weather predicted to drop below freezing, with rain and mudslides looming. And yet, so very different than here, there is no looting.

No looting.
Not only that there are many stories of how people who have 2 bottles of water or two bags of crackers will give one to their neighbor.

How did we get to the point in North America where it's kill or be killed? Every man for himself?

My biggest concern for Japan right now is how do they pay for all of this?
100 billion dollars in damages and clean up.
Japan is second to Zimbabwe in the world for national debt.

How will they maintain the value of the Yen if they have to prop up the market and pay for all of the reconstruction?

The Japanese will find a way. Probably at a cost, but they are one of the greatest nations in the world.

This may be so however with the threat of a nuclear disaster and the effect it has and will have on the cost and power availability to Japan as a whole, recovery is going to be difficult. :(

I heard today that the earthquake has shifted Japan (the whole country!) by 8 feet to the west! That means more earthquakes will come as a result of this incredible impact.

Japan will raise to prove its power once again thought its hard with the loss of its three power reactors. My sincere condolence to Japanese.

And it also slowed the rotation of the Earth, as have previous earthquakes.

They have their own currency so they can print as much of it is needed. Inflation has hardly been a problem for Japan. A less valuable Yen is a boost to exports, on which Japan has been relying, and is now dependent, for GDP growth.

One of the greatest but getting smaller and older by the minute. Japan will get over this disaster, but they have bigger (though less visible) things to worry about in the long run.

Back to the earthquake, I initially dismissed it as not having much of an impact, but I couldn't have been more wrong about it. The consequences have been dramatic. Yet the Japanese are among the better prepared nations when it comes to earthquakes. We can only imagine what this would have meant for other, less developed and worse prepared countries.

I have donated $30 Dollars through paypal for that.
I still could not believe my eyes when I saw that water coming over the whole land.

I started thinking what would happen if something like this happen in Ontario where I live, What would I do to get a way from it and how can I protect my family etc.

I pray that they will be able to recover from this, but only time will tell as with the world trade centers.

help japan

I am hoping everyone is adding prayers for Japan to their daily prayers because they really NEED it and WE really need it and the WHOLE World REALLY needs it. Things are DIRE there! Open your hearts and ask for help in a miracle in getting this taken care of.

As of now the death toll is over the 10.000, the water near the nuclear plant that exploded is already radioactive, not to mention that the japs think that the radioactivity will reach the food and water sources soon, sad year for japan...
