5 years later with smarter approach in finding a server

I use to build websites 5 years ago but had some problems when my house caught on fire and my web host sold his web hosting company. After putting what seemed to be thousands of hours into this website I lost all my saved work.

Thinking I had all my files uploaded on my server I delt with my house problem.

Only to find out 4 days later that my host had sold his company. The new owner had lost all my files and wanted to charge me 20.00 dollars more a month..

So I just quit working online with building websites till now.

A friend needed a site built to tell her story.

I just bought a new domain name for myself today and will start building my site again.. I am here in hopes of finding a good low cost monthly server that never plans on selling his web hosting company....

So now I off to read all the great deals I can find here...

You can never be guaranteed that your host won't decide to sell intruth.
Your best bet is to do your research and find a company that is established and has some years online.
At the very least if you do this there is a better chance if they do decide to sell they will probably research a prospective buyer to make sure there is a smooth transaction.

It's important to always take backups, and also to retain control over your domain name. That way, even if your host takes off, you can still use your domain, and restore your site content.

Mosts hosts offer a one-click backup system, to at least automate the backup process and make things a bit easier.

All the best on your 'return' to building websites. :)

What do you need? A server, VPS or just shared account. If you need server check fdcservers or ev1, if you want VPS... I don't know who to reccomend. About shared hosts you cand a lot of them around.

I also suggest you t double back-up your files.

cheers

Well this is bad luck :(

It is really bad luck that your CDs were also get burned. Some web sites used to offer free disk space for backup purposes. I forget their addresses but if you search web, you can find similar companies i guess.

It would be a good idea to backup your files at these web sites as well.
