I think he was refering to them as 3 char names. Seems like people mix it up with 3 "Letter".

It's still a good find though, as 3 char domains are hard to get too.

some what... but not necessarly. Usually 3 char domain names are used for the length. Since it's a shorter url, webmasters believe it will allow people to remember urls much easier.

Also, some companies have very large names, and typing them in could issues, if a customer types it wrong. Therefore, 3 char domains are used, usually "3 letter". As for SEO, I don't think it will make a major difference, but obviously by reading the url, a 3 letter might not be as attracting as a domain, which displays full test for a dictionary word.
 
None of them are unregistered, I tried the namecheap bulk domain search.

I don't think their are any 3 character domain names not registered today.
 
I've changed the title of the thread to prevent it from being misleading.

Correct, I think one is available at Sedo Auction but the rest were registered before the O/P created this thread.
