1and1 Domain Registration

Does anyone here have any experience with 1and1 domain registration service? Their prices are at least $1 lower than GoDaddy or NameCheap (as well as a lot of other registrars), so why don't everyone switch to 1and1 to save money? Is there any catch to their service that I haven't noticed?

Best,

My dad (45) had a few problems with them in the past. When i was 18 he had to get a lawyer to get his domains to be moved to godaddy.com. Other then that i don't see any thing worng with them.

Some might not be aware of the domain name prices of 1and1.

None that I'm aware of. I contacted them and they said you are not obligated to purchase any of their other services if you register a domain name.

Andrew, well that kind of makes it a big potential problem if they create such a hard time for their customers to move domains away...

Most of what I've heard about 1and1 is bad. Complaints range from a lousy user control panel to big difficulties changing registrars.

The consensus seems to be that it's not worth the savings.

Another option is to open a reseller account with Directi.
$6.99 per domain with a minimum $75 deposit.
Saves a couple of dollars per domain over Godaddy and Namecheap.

Blue, I use a $1 OFF coupon at GoDaddy anyway, so it brings the price down to $6.95 for every domain. Coupon: USA6 if you'd like to use it.

GAH! Art! You gave my secret away!

The two coupons I have:
Buy1: Takes $2 off regular price for .com domain registration.
USA6: Takes $1 off domain registration for 1 year.

And I only use GoDaddy for domain registrations, especially since Bob is from Cedar Rapids - my hometown.

Buy1 coupon has expired a couple of months ago as well. :)

Ha, Marc. I have such a bad memory anyways :)

I didn't realize that the coupon had expired :( Saved me about $20 this year :D

I don't know about Modernbill but WHMAP won't have directi support until the full release of version 3.

well one of my domans are with them and there are probs with them like they take ages to change the name server you could not change any setting if you chnage your nameserver for a while. i would not but from them if i was you.lol

Never had an issue with 1&1; Nameservers take a while to update, but there cheap for .co.uk domain names. Most of my domains I purchase at domainsite.com good to know Nameservers are updated instantly ;) Registeration registered instantly, and good domain system; and of course $6.99 a year.

1&1 is great, we can do anything in the control panel.
The site is a bit slow. That's the worst thing.
Tucows is the best registrar in terms of update instantly, but their price is quite expensive.

1and1 .uk domain registration

For .uk domain names 1and1 are very poor - If you register a domain with them they can take 24 hours before they even bother to register it. I had one client that lost out on a name luckily I was in his office and he saw me register it, it was purchased 6 hours later by another host.

The other problem with them is the whois information is not real time - If I register a domain with most companies such as 123reg seconds later I can do a whois lookup on nominet.org.uk or even other registras such as uk2.net and it will be shown as taken - with 1and1 it wont show as taken for days? I don't understand how that works at all but try it - they automate the taking of your money but can't automate the registration of even checking of a domain.

The only reason I have every used them is they have given me 10 free domain with the hosting - I havn't used 6 of them as I prefer to buy elsewhere.
