Web Host Boot Camp Weekly Review

Have you attended the Web Host Boot Camp virtual conference yet? If not, you’re missing out on such gems as getting started in web hosting, and pitching to investors. Don’t worry, though. If you register with Web Host Boot Camp, which is free by the way, you will have the opportunity to listen to these sessions from the comfort of your own internet browser.

If you’re not already familiar, Web Host Boot Camp is the first ever virtual hosting seminar of its kind. Not only is it free, but it’s also solely available online, eliminating every expense or excuse you may have for not attending it. You may be wondering, is it worth my time? If you’re in the web hosting business, if you’ve thought about starting your own web hosting business, or if you’re just curious about finding out more on the subject, this seminar is for you. Here are some highlights from this past week:

Brian White, president of Web Hosting Solutions, spoke on 6/2/09 about getting started in the web hosting business. This session is definitely for beginners, because White defines the terms web host and reseller, as well as the four different types of hosting options. He walks you through which services you as a host should offer to your customers, and what types of technical knowledge you may need to know. White also discusses common technical support issues, a typical day for a web host, and the type of businesses systems needed. Some currently operating hosts may find White’s advice on marketing and capital most useful in this session.

Indigo Partners‘ strategy consultant A.C. Ross carried the discussion for “Pitching to Investors” on 6/4/09. This session concentrates on what you will need to get your business up and running. It’s primary topic is on business planning– how to develop your plan, and how to pitch it to investors. Business plans may seem boring to some, but it’s a crucial topic for anyone needing capital, even if you’re planning on borrowing from your family. Ross explains the differences between executive summary, elevator pitch, funding pitch, and due diligence– and if you’re not sure, then you definitely need to tune in to this session. Remember, it’s free!
