An untold number of Edison Mail’s users couldn’t trust their eyes recently when they discovered they were able to access and read mail of other people. It appeared that this was a huge security breach that users started reporting after Edison introduced a new update to their iOS app.
A further testament to the problem was the fact that Edison Mail actually rolled out the sync feature. Initially, the idea behind the update was to allow a single user to access all of his email accounts on all of the owned devices. However, something appeared to have gone terribly wrong, with users reporting being able to read the private mail of others. Some claimed they saw unknown devices linked to their email accounts.
Reportedly, there were countless of enquiries directed towards Edison on Twitter in relation to the matter, but they haven’t come with a reply yet.
In a bid to protect their private correspondence, some people have allegedly resolved to removing their email accounts from the application. It may be hard to imagine that email passwords may have been compromised too but it is still advisable for users to do just that. It may calm those affected while Edison manages to fix the software bug, explain what exactly has happened and assure its users that no such major mail security breach will take place in the future.
According to the latest info from Edison Mail, they are urgently trying to resolve the recent technical problems. They have also pointed out that the problem only affected a portion of their user base – those who have updated their mail clients in the last ten hours after the update was introduced.
This is a major security flaw affecting people’s private data and correspondence. Will Edison be able to win back the trust of its users after what has happened? Many doubt it…
