ST Micro, in collaboration with AWS, has introduced the PIC100, a photonic integrated circuit designed to deliver up to 1.6 Tbps for AI-driven data centers. Fabricated using ST’s BiCMOS process, the chip doubles current optical speeds while enhancing efficiency and reducing heat. With production ramping up this year, the technology sets the stage for next-gen networking, though broader adoption will depend on future switch and server capabilities.
